An Interview with Author Tracey West

Tracey West is the creator and writer of the Pixie Tricks series. I wanted to meet the person telling my story, so I went to visit her the other day. She lives in a nice town that's close to New York City.

Tracey told me that she's been writing books for eleven years. She recently wrote the Pokémon chapter books for Scholastic.

I met Tracey in her office. It's filled with fairy books, fairy pictures, and fairy figures. Tracey made us some peppermint tea, and then she let me ask her some questions.

Pixie Tricks Author Tracey WestSprite: Why did you become a writer?
Tracey West: When I was a kid, I loved to read more than anything. I still do. I thought it would be great if I could make up stories that would entertain people as much as other writers entertained me.

S: What was your favorite book as a child?
TW: Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh. I also loved a book called Beyond the Paw Paw Trees by Palmer Brown. You might find it in your library if you're lucky.

S: Did you have a favorite subject in school?
TW: I guess it was Reading, or English, and Social Studies. I enjoyed music class a lot, too.

S: Do you have any hobbies?
TW: Reading, of course. I like to take long walks, especially in the woods and parks nearby. I like to watch cartoons. And I also collect a lot of things, like pixies, comic books, and rubber stamps.

S: Do you have a family?
TW: I live in a house with my three dogs, Ginger, Irvin, and Pee Wee. I have a younger brother and sister who are all grown up. I also have two nieces named Lauren and Julia; a nephew named Daniel; and a goddaughter named Allora Jayne. I like to visit them all. We have a lot of fun together!

S: What is your favorite color?
TW: I like green a lot. I hear green is a favorite color of fairies, too.

S: That's right! What is your favorite TV show?
TW: Right now, it’s Survivor. I was so happy when Sandra won the last season!

S: So, Tracey, I have to ask you. Do you believe in fairies?
TW: Well, Sprite, I wouldn't be talking to you if I didn't, would I?

S: I guess not! Thanks for answering all these questions, Tracey.
TW: You're welcome! Come by any time, Sprite. And good luck tricking those pixies!

S: You bet!
