By now everyone knows the story of Sprite, Violet, Leon, and how they tricked Finn the Wizard. Thanks to them, all fourteen escaped pixies are back in the Otherworld.
The three pixie trickers worked hard to trick all fourteen pixies. But they had some free time, too. That's where our story starts. It's a rainy day, and Sprite, Violet, and Leon are looking for something to do.
Pixie Tricks Presents:
Sprite's Adventures #1: Tooth Fairy Trouble (Part 1)
"I'm bored," Violet Briggs said. She flopped back on her soft bed. Outside, the falling rain went pitter-patter on the window pane.
Her cousin Leon was stretched out on the floor. He was trying to get Sprite to battle his toy robot. But the tiny fairy wanted nothing to do with it.
"I don't like fighting," Sprite said. His rainbow-colored wings shimmered as he fluttered in the air. "Can't we play something else?"
"We shouldn't be playing," Violet said. "We should be trying to trick pixies."
"But it's raining," Leon whined.
Violet frowned. "Well, at least we can come up with a plan," she said after a minute. "Sprite, let me see the Book of Tricks."
Sprite flew up to the bed. He reached into the pouch he wore around his waist. Then he pulled out a small book with a brown cover.
Sprite got the Book of Tricks at Royal Pixie Tricker School. The book told how to trick many of the pixies who lived in the Otherworld.
Violet took a magnifying glass from her pocket and opened the book. "There has to be something here that will help us," she said. She flipped through the pages.
Sprite sat on Violet's shoulder as she pored through the book. Suddenly, she gasped.
"Sprite, what is this?" she asked. "It looks like a story. 'Tooth Fairy Trouble.' What is that?"
Sprite's light green skin blushed a darker green. "It's about me," he said.
"A story about you? Cool," Leon said.
Sprite blushed again. "It's from Royal Pixie Tricker School. We learned how to trick pixies there. Every time we figured out how to trick a pixie, the story appeared in the book."
"Let me see!" Leon said. He reached for the book.
Violet pushed him away. "I'll read it out loud. Then we can all hear it," she said. She snuggled back into her pillows and began to read . . .
Tooth Fairy Trouble
It was a beautiful day in the Otherworld.
Then again, every day is a beautiful day in the Otherworld.
Flowers of every color and shape covered the hills. Tall green trees rose into a crystal blue sky. The sound of tuneful songbirds filled the air.
Queen Mab's palace sat in the center of it all. The pale lilac castle looked as though it was made of spun sugar. It seemed to float on air. And what seemed like hundreds of towers and turrets reached up into the sky.
Sprite had tried to count them all, one day when he had nothing to do. It hadn't worked. Every time he thought he had counted the last tower, another one seemed to pop up out of nowhere.
Counting towers might seem like a waste of time, but Sprite had a reason. He was always getting lost in the palace. And that meant that he was always late for Royal Pixie Tricker class.
Just like today. When Sprite flew into class, all of the other pixie trickers had taken their seats.
"Late again, Mr. Sprite," said Gus, the instructor. Sprite thought the gnome's gray eyes seem to stare right through him.
"Sorry, sir," Sprite said. He slid into his seat.
Gus Gnome adjusted the pointy red hat on his head. Sprite squirmed as the teacher continued to stare at him. Then Gus turned his attention to the class.
"Now then," he said. "Yesterday we were talking about water sprites. Who can tell me the most common way to trick one?"
Sprite twirled a strand of his pale yellow hair and bit his lip. Water sprites . . . water sprites . . . he knew the answer, but it was floating somewhere in his head and he couldn't grab ahold of him.
In the front row, Hazel raised her hand. "I know, Mr. Gnome," she said.
Sprite sighed. Hazel was a tree fairy, and a smart one, too. Her skin was the light brown color of a smooth hazel nut. She wore a dress made of green hazel leaves, and a crown of twisted hazel twigs on her head.
Hazel was the biggest showoff in the class. She always seemed to know the answer to everything.
Gus Gnome beamed at his prize student. "Very well, Hazel. Please educate your fellow students."
But before Hazel could speak, a tall fairy swept into the classroom. Two large white wings fluttered on her back. She wore a pink dress and carried a wand topped with the tooth. Her blonde hair, usually neatly combed, flew loosely around her head. She seemed upset about something.
"Flossie!" Gus Gnome cried. "What are you doing here?"
"I need your help," Flossie said. "Someone has been stealing my teeth. My precious teeth!"
Sprite gasped. He had heard of Flossie, the tooth fairy, but had never met her in person. She was something of a celebrity in the Otherworld.
Gus Gnome thoughtfully pulled on his white beard. "This will be an excellent test for my students," he said. "Don't worry, Flossie. I will make sure your teeth are found."
Flossie managed a small, grateful, smile. But Sprite knew she still looked worried. Sprite gave her a smile that said, "Don't worry!"
Gus Gnome turned to Hazel. "Hazel, I'd like you to lead this investigation," he said. Then he scanned the room. "You'll need a partner."
"How about that young man?" Flossie asked. "He seems nice."
Shocked, Sprite realized that Flossie was pointing at him.
"Sprite? You don't want him," Gus said.
"Please," said Flossie. "I have a good feeling about him."
Gus sighed. "All right," he said. "Sprite, you're on the case. But leave all the thinking to Hazel, will you?"
Sprite sunk down in his seat. He was just learning how to be a Royal Pixie Tricker. And now he had to help one of the most important fairies in the Otherworld. What if he let her down? Flossie would never forgive him. And Gus Gnome would probably kick him out of class.
Then there was Hazel. Sprite guessed she wasn't too happy about helping him. What if she tried to boss him around.
Sprite took a deep breath. Then he stood up.
"I'll do my best," he told everyone. "I promise!"
Will Sprite and Hazel get along? Will they find the Tooth Fairy's missing teeth? Check the website in August for Part 2 of Tooth Fairy Trouble!
